About: Eli is a reluctant adventurer, dodging the law as he travels north and then west, out of slave territory. He hits the major cities of the east coast; Baltimore, Philly, New York, hoping to find any kind of refuge or the promise of a better future. When he realizes he isn't going to find what he wants on the east coast he decides that California is the answer. Eli is an artistic sort of person, with an eye for natural beauty and an appreciation of animals and the earth. He built his own banjo and travels everywhere with it, learning and sharing songs with the friendlier people that he meets. He hops freight and spends a lot of time in train yards, either hiding or working if possible. Eli is a really chill guy despite all of the bullshit he has been through. He's always looking over his shoulder, but he's got a slow smile anyway. While he doesn't really fit the bill of a criminal, he's got no qualms with a certain style of theivery and scamming, especially at the expense of people who would do the same or worse to him. He has a vision and he figures there's no point in quitting until he succeeds or dies trying. He isn't foolhardy, though. Eli is careful, tactful, shy, and deceptively sly. Still, anxiety eats away at him and his is often down. He struggles not to lose himself sometimes. The music keeps him going.

Appearance: He's got coily hair that he usually keeps in a short haircut with a side part. Mutton chops or a full beard around his chin, depending on if he's really had a chance to shave. He usually keeps his facial hair looking very neat. Eli is a neat guy in general, or as neat as you can be when you live the lifestyle he does. He dresses in clothing typical of 1800's America, usually with a wide-brimmed hat. He has kind of a cowboy look to him.

Skills: Eli is extremely proficient with a lasso. Great at riding horses, good with most animals. He's also really good with a deck of cards, he can do a lot of fancy shuffles and card tricks, but he rarely reveals this to anyone. Banjo!
